Following on from Deborah Gibberd's message to the forums re missed
sessions, you may be interested in the correspondence we have been
having with SFE. See below. There are a couple of messages which I will
forward to you all. Hope that's ok.

Best wishes, Marie

Dear Marie

With reference to your previous email and the wording in our letter.

As far as I understood the letter's wording, it relates to student's who
are making appointments and not attending them with insufficient warning
and no acceptable reason i.e. not health related or circumstances beyond
their control.

We often allow a student to miss one appointment without questioning the
circumstances and we pay the invoice. But student's who consistently
don't
honour their appointments without good reasoning may have to pay for the
missed appointment themselves, as we can't agree to pay them.

So, it is not that we don't think suppliers shouldn't be paid in these
circumstances, it's just that we can't agree to pay them.

I hope this helps clarifies the situation for you, if not please contact
us
for further information.

Yours sincerely

Dear Team,

I have been informed that SFE approval letters to students include the
following words "please note, also, that it is reasonable for the
provider
to make a charge for any appointments you might miss without proper
notice
or good reason. However, I cannot undertake to agree payment in such
cases.
The provider might, therefore, charge you if this should happen."

I would be grateful if you could check this for me, as Elaine told me
that
SFE understood the reasons that disabled students might not attend, and
was
aware of the SSIN of July 2006, and understood that support workers
would
need to be paid when students did not attend. I may have been
mis-informed
about the words in the letter.

Best wishes, Marie
