It's quite simple really. Twitter is like Facebook with *only* the "what
are you doing now" component.
I agree that having a stream of "what are you doing now" of too many
'random' people is a bit too much information; but if you link to the
right people/organisations then it's more like the tickers that so many
news organisations are beloved of (except you just get the info once of
course). And I've found out many things significantly sooner than I
would otherwise have done.
