Dear All,
Related to the previous query on EP reports and I know this question comes up on a regular basis, but do you charge students some or all of the cost of the dyslexia assessments? Since the ALF funding was cut about 2 years ago we are getting a smaller allocation to pay for assessments and even with topping this up from my budget, it is becoming very difficult to meet the costs for all students asking for an assessment (who have had a screening) at a small college.
If you do charge how much do you charge and if not how do you ration the money you have? One student union member (who is dyslexic) suggested only assessing those who are severely dyslexic but from a screening test this would be hard to administer and not very equitable I think, but she was against charging students at all. Other option is to say you can only pay for a certain number per year but then that's not fair either.
We also have quite a large number of distance learning students and haven't been asked to pay yet for any assessments but for equity they should be offered assessments too. What do you do about this?
Thanks,
Ros Platton
