Hi Michelle
Have you considered Xmind: http://www.xmind.net/
It is open source, which means it's free. There's also a portable version so
students can carry it about on a USB stick. Xmind has similar features to
Mind Manager (although it doesn't export to Word - yet! But it does export
to HTML and then view and edit in Word).
It is compatible with Macs and Linux based operating systems. It is also
possible to import earlier versions of Mind Manager mind maps.
The interface is similar to Mind Manager and is very easy to use.

Subject: Mind mapping at SET institutions
Dear colleagues.
Happpy New Year. We're at the point of purchasing a site license for mind-
mapping software and two particular products have been suggested.
Could colleagues tell me which mind-mapping products they use on their
networks? In particular, do colleagues within Science, Engineering and
Technology (SET) institutions find certain mind-mapping applications more
suitable than others?
Please note, I'm not after quotes from software supplliers at this stage.
Very grateful for your feedback.
Kind regards
Michelle
