It can be a bad thing, yes. Imposing rules by way of corporate IT have
can significantly "cramp the style" of someone trying to be productive.
For example, I know of a company that's gone "MAC-only", and if I was
forced to use one of their laptops I'd be like a fish out of water.
Having a company-provided PC also unticks one of the boxes the Inland
Revenue uses for deciding if someone is a subcontractor or an employee.
But yes, there are some "security" issues and no doubt the 'no gain
without pain' approach is ultimately going to be best at preventing data
leaks. The biggest pain, of course, is to say "never take work out of
the office".
