Good Afternoon
Not guidance-but what do you tell the students who are completing these?
Any fair processing information provided could also mention the
potential defamation issues along with any likely consequences of
processing. Frankly, it would be worth pointing out to them that if they
make abusive/contentious comments, you will end up holding them and
their comments may then be disclosable.
Rather than have to "edit" existing dodgy text, thus altering recorded
information-which you may want to avoid, why not reduce the potential
for this to occur/leave the writer in no doubt as to consequences to
start with?

Subject: [data-protection] DPA and Course Evaluation Questionnaires
Dear all,
Does anyone know of any guidance about DPA & FOI issues in relation to
Course Evaluation Questionnaires (CEQs), in which students assess the
academic courses they've taken in both quantitative & qualitative terms?
DPA & FOI issues seem to arise when a student has directed qualitative
comments at individual tutors. We are considering whether our new
online CEQs should be edited to remove any defamatory or abusive
comments and, if so, who should do the editing and whether or not the
unedited versions should be destroyed.
Thanks in advance,
James Knapton
