A similar example: play.com send advertising e-mails every fortnight, with
no opportunity to opt out on the web site when you buy goods. The
'unsubscribe' link in the e-mails takes you to a log-in page where you have
to give the username and password you originally entered when you bought the
goods, before you can tell them not to market. Needless to say, I have no
idea what I entered, as I had no intention of developing a continuing
relationship. (I was ordering a CD for my daughter, who now has her own
credit card.) I therefore e-mailed their customer services, requiring them
not to market to me, and received an acknowledgement over six weeks ago -
and no cessation of the fortnightly marketing e-mails.
