we expect students to complete their work within the normal deadlines, including any support help. we do, however, issue coursework many weeks in advance, and often at the start of the year, so the issue is perhaps more of students getting started than needing extra time.

I agree, however most of our students are given access to a proof reader and in order to get this completed in time for the deadline they have to ensure their work is finished a week beforehand to send for proofreading.
Therefore they are getting less time to produce their work - hence a recommendation for an extension policy.

We would not automatically provide an extension for dyslexia. We believe there is enough time for students to meet coursework deadlines. If some unexpected difficulty arose which prevented meeting the due date, it would be for the academic department to consider granting an extended deadline, based upon the evidence available.

Do any other HEIs have a policy of an automatic extension to assignment deadlines for students with dyslexia?
If so, would you be willing to share it with me?
