I suspect people also have concerns given central government's appalling
recent record on data security and they think the Immigration Service
will lose everything...
Is it not Friday yet?

And as they store just a "hash" of the fingerprint, you can't work
backwards and use the stored data in a traditional physical fingerprint
matching exercise.

It would be useful to know what their system actually does - is it more
than the library ones?
Of course, a lot of the fuss is because the scheme is somewhat logically
backwards. In order to 'protect the UK' they are fingerprinting more UK
residents than foreigners. It's the "made to feel like a criminal"
aspect that seems to concern people more than the potential for data
leakage.
