At Northumbria University we have a Braille Embosser available to VI
students and their support staff. School support staff will receive the
necessary training (from me) if they are responsible for embossing
documents. It is ideal for embossing (small) documents in Braille if
they are needed. If the students require any larger documents embossing
we normally outsource this.

There is no one assigned to support it who can read Braille. People
send their own text files to be translated and printed by the software.
If we are preparing formal documents (ie exams), we would send it out to
a specialist.

Chris, who does the transcribing in the library and did they have
training to use the software properly?

We have a Braille Embosser as a library resource. Staff and students
can send material there. Maintenance is bought in. Chris

Subject: Braille Embossers
Hello,
I was just wondering if many institutions have a (working) Braille
Embosser as part of the services offered to disabled students? I'm
trying to gauge if this is a standard bit of kit, or whether most have
taken the decision not to have one.
If you do have one, do you have someone who knows how to test and
maintain it?
Thanks,
Erin Jackson
