Hi All
We had a similar query to this recently. The only option we could find
if the materials are analogue i.e. on video tape, was to employ one of
the companies who transfers analogue materials into digital form.
Once the materials are digitised, on DVD or whatever, there are several
ways of adding captions, subtitles etc - you can either engage the
services of somebody like the RNID or there are some fairly easy-to-use
tools such as Magpie
(http://ncam.wgbh.org/richmedia/tutorials/usingmagpie.html) - we managed
to get up and running with it in about 15 minutes so it's fairly easy to
use.
For more generic advice about the accessible use of video in teaching,
the Skills For Access site is an incredibly rich resource
(http://www.skillsforaccess.org.uk/)
Hope this helps

I would be interested in the replies to this as we have a similar

Subject: Subtitling and transcribing videos
Hi All,
We have a couple of students who are doing courses where
a lot of videos are being shown. These videos are quite old and so are
not subtitled at all and probably wouldn't be available on DVD either,
as they are educational products rather than films that are likely to be
re-released.
Firstly, can anyone tell me if it is possible to
subtitle something like this, once it is already recorded?
Secondly, if we were to subtitle this and/or to produce
a transcript and had to pay someone to do this, can we use the DSA for
this or not?
Kind regards
