Probably due to your exposure to the negative aspects of DP. But there's no
harm in keeping an open mind and remaining diligent.
Are they registered?
Don't forget they also have an obligation to keep accurate records under DP
which means they need to validate personal data from time to time. Many do
not do this.
However staff movement controls are also an issue.
I remember an ex ICO officer who left and set up his own consultancy a few
years back and guess what I was contacted when he marketed his services at
the address which I had only ever provided to the ICO. As we know it tends
to happen despite obligations over security. It's this difficult control
area of unauthorized use by authorized staff.

Subject: [data-protection] Am I being suspicious ?
I have just been to the hairdresser where I have been going for over a
year. On paying she asked for my contact details for their records -
telehone number and address which she wrote in a book and her name against
it. She has been my hairdresser for the last 3 times (they change staff
quite regularly). I gave my work number and 2 lines of my address and she
said it was to keep them up to date with their clients. I said I hope you
aren't selling names and addresses and she said no, it's just for our
records.
Why am I unhappy with this or am I just suspicious because I do DP. We are
in a small country town so this is proabably nothing sinister.
If you return a pair of socks to Peacocks you have to give an address - or
something to Argos
Why don't I think you can't trust anyone these days ?
