Join the National Student Forum: application deadline extended
The Department for Innovation, Universitites and Skills will shortly be launching a National Student Forum, designed to amplify the student voice in Government. The Forum is being created in partnership with the National Union of Students, the National Postgraduate Committee, the Mature Students' Union, Skill: the national bureau for students with disabilities, the Open University Students' Association and the British Council.
The Forum will:
· Advise Government on the reasonable expectations and responsibilities of students, drawing in part on the results of Student Juries which will explore specific aspects of the student experience.
· Provide a student perspective on emerging policy areas, feeding views to policy makers (DIUS Ministers, officials and partner organisations)
· Help evaluate the impact of existing policy on students in different circumstances
· Initiate discussion on areas of potential policy interest
· Produce an annual report for Ministers' attention and public comment
The Forum will have 15 - 20 members in total, nominated by the partner organisations. It will meet at least four times a year, and will set its own agenda. Members will be expected to commit to Forum membership for 1 year, including attendance at the Forum meetings. Members may also be asked to attend occasional subgroups and, as their availability allows, take part in profile-raising or other activities.
This is a fantastic opportunity for students to put their views, ideas and opinions on issues that matter to them direct to Government and policy-makers.
If you would like to be considered for nomination by Skill, please contact [log in to unmask] ASAP, for an application form which must be returned by 9am on Friday 11th January.
