Hi Claire,
I generally set rest periods at ten minutes per hour for students. They
don't have to take these in tem minute blocks, they can use them
whenever they feel like it and they need to let the invigilator know
about it. If the rest breaks aren't enough we'd obviously recommend
more time for them. We've also used rest breaks in addition to extra
time.
Regards
Pauline

Subject: Rest breaks
Dear All,
We have had numerous queries from the exams office regarding rest
periods and how they are incorporated into exams. I wondered how other
institutions deal with rest periods during exams. Is the amount of time
for rest periods open-ended or is it capped at a certain amount? Do
needs assessors set the time of rest periods? Is this in additional to
extra time?
Any help or advice you can offer would be greatly appreciated.
With best wishes
Claire
