Not that the guarantee is great as it doesn't seem to cover
consequential losses.
However, if I understand the DD system correctly, Mr Clarkson would
have been infomed in writing 10 days before the first debit was taken
with ample time to stop it. If he wasn't, the charity or posibly
royal mail are also at fault. It might just be that this detail was
missed because the story and publicity is better without it.
A few of us are old enough to remember cheques :-) These give your
bank details to anyone you give them to. Addresses are easy to
obtain. If the only safeguard in the banking system is not knowing
peoples bank details there is little hope for any of us.
