Hi
Deaf students at UCLan work with Language Tutors on their assignments. Language Tutors work with the students to amend grammar and structure etc.
The original first draft IS handed in to the tutor, along with the final piece of work. Subject tutors mark the final draft, but the original draft is there too, so the tutor can see that the work, ideas, content are that of the deaf student.

Hi,
I think this would have to be done in consultation with the student so
that they are asked which of the alternatives they meant when writing
the ambiguous sentence. This might work with a BSL interpreter where the
student's errors are the result of BSL being the first language. In this
case the BSL version would give the meaning. I would question the
editing of a script without reference to the student as the type of
error that could legitimately be corrected would surely only be those
where an examiner could decipher the meaning anyway?
Where a student does not use BSL I think this might be dubious practice
as one might be suggesting answers to the student that would not have
occurred to them. It might be better to viva the student for
clarification, i.e. examiners would ask questions to seek the meaning
behind ungrammatical answers where the meaning is not clear. (We have
used this type of viva.)

Subject: Assessment concessions for a profoundly Deaf student
Dear All
I have had a request from a partner college to have the following
assessment concession for a profoundly Deaf student:
Ammendment of grammar to written assignments, where original draft/s
accompanied the altered document. I was wondering if other institutions
have this?
Thanks in advance.
Heather
