I think Alan is referring to the The Education (Pupil Information)
(England) Regulations 2000 which gives parents rights to access school
records, as defined in the regulation, for as long as the records exist.
This applies to records on children up to the age of 18 and I believe
applies after the age of 18 if the "child" is still at school.
I have not look at it for a long time but I believe it has not been
superseded.

Subject: [data-protection] Guidance on access to education records
I see from the latest alert that ICO have issued some useful guidance on
access to education records. HOWEVER it does state that parents can
access a child's records up to the age of 12. I seem to remember that
the Education Acts permit a parent access to education records up to 16
and the Learning Skills Acts evn up to 19 in some cases or is this just
a case of my memory playing tricks??
