Hi,
Following on from this query, does anyone have experience of providing
a support worker for a trip within the UK? Can you advise me on how
you have made a costing for this (I'll get to how it will be paid for
later).
The student only needs a support worker during studying hours, but of
course the support worker will be away from home for the duration of
the trip (5 days). I imagine that the overall pay will affect the
chances of finding a support worker willing to go, so how do I
determine how much they should be paid???
Thanks.

Subject: Re: trips abroad
We have had students with extensive needs going abroad on field trips
who required day/overnight personal assistance and a learning
facilitator. With the right planning it can usually happen but it can
take time to organising, liasing with social services and the LEA.
If the student is being declined a place as a direct result of an
impairment, this would seem to be discriminatory. If the student has
struggled with day trips it may be that the right support wasn't in
place. It's difficult to say without more details.
If you would like to speak to me, please ring 01695 584746.
kind regards

Does anyone have any experience of students being declined an option
to go on a trip aborad because of their additional support needs? A
student we are working with has been told that because they have
struggled with day trips that they cannot do a trip away but has not
been offered any potential adjustments?
appreciate any thoughts!
thanks
