I think that we expect up to date virus software, but I'm also quite sure that we have a separate access network for students to staff to prevent any such problems - the student network still permits full access to all our resources.

That remind me, all the bedrooms at the University of Nottingham are
wired for network access too. I think you sign an agreement that
you'll have an up-to-date virus checker, but that's it.
