Hi
I have seen this being demonstrated (twice - both times with HE in mind)
and would be happy to chat about what I see as its pros and cons in a
lecture / tutorial situation. I think it might be much more suitable
for someone doing a PhD, as they could use it during tutorials and
supervision sessions, etc - I personally have some concerns about
accuracy in a lecture situation (not to mention the 'technology'
requirements - an internet connection and a phone line - not always easy
to ensure in a lecture theatre).
Having said that, we are considering trialling it with a hearing student
to see how accurate and reliable it is in a lecture.
Teletec are keen to 'break in to' the HE market and if you would like to
arrange a demo, I would advise you to contact Christopher Jones on

Subject: experience of WebCapTel
Dear all
Has anyone any experience of using WebCapTel?
A deaf student who is starting a doctorate here in September told me she
is about to use this in the workplace and was very enthusiastic about
it. It does sound promising but it would be good to hear how good it is
in practice.
(If you haven't heard of this- and I hadn't til this morning it's a
captioning system which uses phone and internet).
Thanks
Marion
