Out of interest overall degree result - or for individual papers? (In my own
case, we had to guess when the results were going to appear - I recall
trying to get into the maths building late one evening or at the weekend -
we never received, as far as I can remember letters confirming our results -
if we had done I would have kept them. With email these days that would be
very simple).
An added point is that whilst the individual results should be protected, I
would have thought that students should be able to know the distribution of
the results so that they can know how they compared with the group as a
whole.
How is this dealt with?
Of course, this might reflect on the lecturer just as much as on the student
group.
An individual student might feel less badly about a poor result in a
particular paper if they knew that this was the case with all students.
