Just a comment as I noticed you mentioned that the police had filled in a
form. The release of information to the police under DPA 98 is entirely
at your discretion as the data controller, and you need to be able to
defend that decision to rely upon the exemption.
The test is whether you are satisfed that there would be a substantial
chance, rather than a mere risk, that in the particular case not providing
the information would seriously prejudice the police investigation, not
whether the police have filled in a form.
