A little bit off DP but, for a public body, if we hold information on
our systems in a personal email, we still hold it and it still would be
subject to FOI. So although we may have solved some of the DP issues we
are left with FOI issues which are not solved by simply saying "it's
personal".

Another possible advantage is that it makes it a bit easier to deal with
the situation where a member of staff is off sick or otherwise
unavailable. I'd be a bit happier with the sysadmin giving a colleague
access to a 'work-only' mailbox (or pulling out from a mixed mailbox
messages addressed to a 'work-only' address) if I knew the owner had
been given the opportunity to file personal stuff differently.
Of course using 'role' e-mail addresses, like
<[log in to unmask]> is an even better way to deal with that
problem.
