For what it is worth here is the UCL CCTV Policy:
http://www.ucl.ac.uk/efd/security/documents/cctvpolicy.doc
I note, for instance, that it includes:
"facilitate the identification of any activities/event which might warrant
disciplinary proceedings being taken against staff or students and assist in
providing evidence to managers and/or to a member of staff or student
against whom disciplinary or other action is, or is threatened to be taken."
Is not the university a joint partner in this? After all, would not the
university be interested in identifying a fraudulent claim? It seems to me
that it is also a fraud against the university in that the claim is
presumably made against the university who passed on the claim to their
insurers.

Subject: [data-protection] CCTV Footage Release
Hi All
Our insurance Claims Inspector has requested some footage from our CCTV in
the library, to prove a fraudulent claim against the university.
We sometimes have Police requests and they fill in the relevant paperwork
etc, however, I'm not sure if I can release the footage under these
circumstances.
Any advice would be very welcome and I thank you in advance.
Regards.
Sue
