Dear colleagues,
I am pleased to be able to announce a day long event at St Johns College,
Cambridge 'Depression: Meeting the needs in a University setting'
This event will take place on 24th April 2007, between 10am - 4pm. This
event is open to all, and places are limited so please contact the
University of Cambridge Disability Resource Centre as soon as possible for a
registration form to ensure a place.
The purpose of the event is to consider best practice in the support of
staff and students with depression. Staff and student issues will be
covered and there will be an opportunity to discuss shared concerns with a
large panel of experts from within and outside the university. While
disclosure at application does not reflect the numbers of students seen with
depression, there is clearly a need to create environments which promote
good mental health. Currently 8 - 12% of the population experiencing
depression each year, and depression now recognised as a disability by the
Disability Rights Commission even when it is not clinically well recognised,
this event will help you meet the needs of staff and students with depression.
Please circulate this information to all who are interested. For a
registration form please contact Giselle Cope [log in to unmask]
all best wishes,
Kirsty Wayland
