Afternoon All,
I think the original question was whether post codes are personal data or
not. In the circumstances posed, I'd say yes. Part b of the definition
includes the concept of a person being identified by the data controller
using other information. I'm the only person within my post code who works
for my employer and I suspect this is the case for many workers. The post
code is data: combine this with the information that I work for X, the data
controller X presses buttons and says "Ah; that's that ******* Doherty."

Well, I suppose if one doesn't want communications from an employer then
there is always an option of working for oneself.
It is considered usual in one way or another for employers to want to
communicate with their staff.
Clearly this is not to be abused and if an employer was to send out
frivolous material this would not be in the interest of the employer.
I would be interested to know whether you give the same advice from your
consultancy as you do in this Discussion Group - which generally seems to be
whatever is proposed that you can't.
