Afternoon All,
The answer lies in section 64 Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 and
Section 82 Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001 - both thrilling reads. The
latter amended the former. The phraseology is pretty orotund, but
effectively police may retain elimination fingerprints if they have the
written consent of the individual providing them. That's it.

I don't know the answer to that and if I am honest, it doesn't worry me one
way or the other. I suspect that the police try to accumulate as much data
as they can on everyone they encounter - I'm sure it's always been that way
and it always will be.

Have the police still got your fingerprints, Tim, or did they destroy them
once the case was closed ?
