We are trying to set up an account with a taxi firm so that a blind student can travel home safely. The LEA (and the Needs Assessment) says that DSA regulations are such that we can only claim back the fare minus the cost of the same journey by public transport. This student has a Freedom Pass and so would not incur any cost if she travelled by public transport and if she was not disabled, would probably have chosen to live in Hall and not had the travel costs at all. If the university pays the account termly and claims back from the student's DSA, the student would have to pay back the difference weekly (around £16.) This all seems very rigid and undesirable. I would be grateful for some swift advice from others.
Many thanks.
