Hi Alice,
In our new halls building we have several adapted rooms and one for a person with a guide dog - ground floor with patio door leading onto a piece of ground where there will be an enclosed kennel / dogrun. The room has been built with visual impairment in mind.
Re allergies and phobias, our forms do ask if the student wishes to disclose any serious allergies so I guess that would be flagged up. Phobias are different - I guess we would move a student if the issue arose.
We had a student with a guide dog a number of years ago and I can't remember there being any problems. I seem to recall stories of the dog being left behind in Halls on SU disco nights!
Regards

Subject: guide dogs in halls
Hi,
I was wondering if anyone had had any experience of guide dogs in halls. A prospective student is on the waiting list for a guide dog, but doesn't have one yet.
Did you consult other students in halls to check that they didn't have any allergies/phobias? Were there any room adaptations or adaptations to the communal flat facilities?
Thanks for your help,
alice
