Hi Colleagues - there seemed to be some confusion with a posting I tried
to send yesterday so I'm trying again today - have a lovely Easter. I
am off for my first leave in donkeys, really looking forward to it.
Yesterday I sent: (apologies if you did get this!)
I agree the whistle approach is tempting until I think they will
probably just as likely sue me for eardrum damage or some such made-up
baloney just to be that much more irritating and waste more of my
time!
Admittedly I have just plain hung up on one particular obtuse person
ringing from India who wouldn't let me be graceful and actually went
on
the attack as though I was the idiot in not wanting cheaper calls or
free holiday of whatever the heck it was. I think I finally lost my
famous cool and said that when she can care to ring me from the
country
I actually live in then maybe I will start to listen to what they have
to say.
It's coming back to me now - I then rang BT and took a piece out of
their hide for having the discourtesy of ringing me about my phone
rates
from another country when there is an office just up the road with
people who speak the Queen's English PLUS these same off shore people
have been given access to my contact details and billing history etc
etc.... I was a tad riled. My husband enjoyed the show though. I
haven't received a call from India again. <fingers crossed!>

Thanks Karen.
In the past, I have done this (and as it appears so with your husband,
very successfully too!) but to be honest, I am now so irritated with
them, the quantity and the fact that even holding them on the line to
watch them dangle and wriggle uncomfortably as I use the DPA to my
advantage, is taking up too much of my time. So that ultimately, I
have
so far adopted a similar line to Sara-Jane's suggestion so far and
once
I know its not for me, I state clearly that they have the wrong number
and hang up. Not answering is not an option, as I hate answer phones
so
don't have one and always worry that it might be a legitimate call
from
an elderly relative. The "whistle by the phone" approach is getting
more and more tempting......
Regards,
Clare
