I have just had an experience that hinges on Data Protection - or certainly
a cavalier attitude to such issues.
I live in a block of flats and our mail, unfortunately, goes to a common
letterbox.
This morning I was collecting my post and I couldn't help noticing that
through the window of an official letter to a neighbour it could be clearly
seen that the letter related to an appointment at an Ante-Natal Clinic.
This should obviously be information that it is private to herself (even
within her own household) and certainly not to be "published" to the other
residents in a block of flats.
No doubt it is cheaper using window envelopes but it is clear that envelopes
should be used in all situations where privacy is required.
On a more general point many organisations seem to use their mailings as
advertising. So that all my neighbours are privy to all the charities I
might or might not support and me them.
Before anyone suggests it - yes, we should have individual letterboxes...
