Not surprising really given the pressures of unsolicited sales calls in the
USA.
Given that any tel. number, like e-mail addresses, can be used to track and
profile individuals allowing focused commercial attention to be paid, the
issues have historically been viewed from both perspectives, with the
ability to collate the data a determining force so far in providing the
service.
Given the strong commercial culture, maybe the smaller companies who have
effectively done the groundwork for the systems over a large number of years
will go out of business with fewer perhaps centralised or controlled
replacement(s) taking over. What real affect that could have maybe better
left to conjecture at this stage as that would be reliant upon decisions
made in the current climate about the future.
