Yes but we never comply as they have a habit of using that Section. If
we think it is a genuine S29 we would comply though but would ask for
relevant information to back us up i.e. only if it was a serious crime
not for petty things.
Once, we had a paperboy who had been assaulted and we released details
of personnel who started work between 6 and 8 in the morning but only
after speaking to the CID and asking them to send me a Section 29 Notice
from the Police and it had to be signed by a Chief Superintendent and
other high ranking officer.

Dear all,
I was wondering if many of the other organisations often receive
requests under section 29 of the DPA.
If so, I would just like to see what your views are, and whether you
feel this moves some of the administrative burden for criminal
investigations onto the public sector. How appropriate do you feel this
is, that certain 'low level' investigations are undertaken by persons
who have otherwise nothing to do with the Police (I hope).
Best wishes
Legal Compliance
