As a wholly non-specialist answer, the UKIC looks favourably on a retention
policy that is argued from a position of logic and authority, and that
simply "makes sense". Of course it also needs to be documented and acted
upon.
If you are able to argue for a period with an argument that is rational,
based on the need to process the data, and that passes any test of
reasonableness (man on the London Underground, etc) then the UKIC will not
be particularly exercised even if yours is "too long". All he will do is
ask you to discuss and then alter the period.

Subject: [data-protection] Retention Guidelines
Hi
Does anyone know of any guidelines which cover the length of time
information relating to Anti-Social behaviour cases (those which may or may
not end up in any action being taken) should be kept for?
I have heard everything from 3 to 5 to 7 years from last action!
Many Thanks
