Information Sharing Index: Consultation on Draft Information Sharing
Index (England) Regulations
This consultation seeks views on the draft regulations made under
section 12 of the Children Act 2004. The regulations, once in force,
will provide a legal framework for the operation and maintenance of the
information sharing index.

By the end of 2008, there will be a national Information Sharing Index
to enable those working with children to identify and contact one
another easily and quickly. This will facilitate and speed up the
sharing of information about children and young people in need of
intervention.
I have not seen much publicity about this. Whilst any measures which
will result in better protection of children are very welcome, I am just
mindful of the Information Commissioner's recent report and his words
that we are waking up to a surveillance society.
