I think that someone from this list recently sent me a link which indicated
that it was illegal to make a colour (rather than a B and W copy) of a
passport.
I have mislaid the email containing the link - I have had a request to
provide a colour copy of my passport to a recruitment agency.
Doing a search I found an item in the Morning Advertiser website in which
Tim Martin, Chairman of Wetherspoon, criticises the government as follows:
"Citing a rule introduced three years ago to counter illegal immigration, he
said: "We had to have a colour copy of every job applicant's passport, work
permit and bills - so every one of our pubs had to buy a colour
photocopier.""

Can someone please clarify the situation for me?
I suspect that the requirement to provide a colour copy mentioned by Mr
Martin is over-the-top. Unless they have a scanner I wouldn't have thought
most businesses have a colour copier.
