With the UK now admittedly on a par with India in some of its personal data
processing and the ICO's forecastable reactions within the UK any stated DP
purpose largely appears defunct and no longer a true requirement. So what
real differences now exist between the UK and USA stances?
Given the reported difficulties experienced by Chris in obtaining relevant
opinions with which to inform his considered DP views, openness and freedom
of information now only appear to provide an ability to judge for oneself
what personal data disclosure is appropriate in any set of circumstances,
which itself now seems increasingly to depend on what information is
presented to you.
Fad or fact. Subject or citizen the results appear similar if one
thoughtlessly accepts what is given.

Subject: USA is pushing EEA to change Data Transfer Rules
I picked this snippet up from Compliance and Privacy:
http://www.complianceandprivacy.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=143
Looks like the USA wants us to roll over and play dead! They want THEIR
rules ion data transfer to third countries, not ours.
