As a matter of interest, what would be correct practice here?
It seems to me that possibly the only way of making sure that you are
speaking to the bank is them referring you to a recognised number to ring
back which could be confirmed on a website or stationery.
We have to identify ourselves to banks etc, but I don't have any procedures
as a private individual for a bank or other organisation to identify
themselves to me when they ring up.
