I would suggest that first you give their Privacy Officer the chance to
investigate (not mandatory, but courteous). But, if that person is hard to
find (Call the switchboard and ask for their Privacy Officer) as some are,
then consider enlisting the UKIC.
It is probably a simple clerical data error, but there should be policies
and processes to sample check data. If there are none (and only the UKIC
can discover this) then that does mean some sort of UKIC advice.
A full UKIC investigation is unlikely under these circumstances.

Subject: [data-protection] Inadvertent disclosure
Greetings
I've just been speaking to the company who provides our telephone lines.
I was querying a number of issues with them, and in the course of the
conversation their customer services representative inadvertently disclosed
personal details of a domestic customer - name, full postal address and
services that that individual subscribed to.
This disclosure was made after I had verified our account details with them
- there was no question as to my identity or what I was calling in
connection with.
I have two questions:
(1) Is this type of disclosure (unlawful as it is) commonplace?
(2) How can I best report this disclosure? Hardly crime of the century but
an unlawful disclosure nonetheless.
Ronan.
