which reports
"Although there is currently no general data protection law, the Information
Technology and E-Commerce Council (ITECC) has proposed in 2003 a data
privacy law.[5] This law is expected to adhere to EU standards of data
privacy, despite the difficulty of negotiating the differences between the
policies of the EU and the US, one of Philippines' largest trading
partners.[6] The proposed privacy law may also address some of the privacy
concerns inherent in a national ID system.[7]"
There is more.

Subject: [data-protection] Privacy law(s) in the Philippines
Does anyone know if the Philippines have implemented a privacy/data
protection law? I think a draft data protection law based on the EU
directive was in circulation early 2005, but I can't find any news that
this was accepted as law.
Thanks in advance
Sophie
