One advantage to them is that their web logs will show which sites have
read it. If the URL is unique to you, it'll show that you read it. It's
an alternative to those 1x1 images for those of us who don't read HTML
email.
It probably is shorter than the full-text version, though!

Why should I trust that? In fact, if I were in the business of propagating
viruses, I might be inclined to add something like that to the end of my
messages, in the hope that it might impress the gullible.
