having a way of tracing the caller should there be any problems....."
I would always recommend this for most issues if there is no other way of
confirming the caller's name, e.g. password etc.
I know of at least one instance where these checks were not carried out and
resulted in an "imposter" gaining access to someone elses information to do
with a divorce dispute. Can't be too careful!
