I don't have the documents, but I seem to remember that one of the
pieces of advice was to take a telephone number and call the enquirer
back - thus having a way of tracing the caller should there be any
problems.....

Subject: [data-protection] Identity Checks over the telephone
Chaps (and naturally chappesses),
Back in the dark ole days of Liz France, her office produced guidelines
on the types of checks that Data Controllers should do to verify the
identity of the caller.
If I remember correctly, there were 2 or 3 on personal data and the same
number on product or relationship.
Do any of you have a saved copy or can you remember what checks that the
office recommended? Naturally, I am unable to find the document on the
ICO's website. A good thing that it is currently being improved?
Thanks in anticipation,
Les
