Subject: [data-protection] FOI/DP Request
Hi All
Happy New Year to you all....sorry came back to over 200 e-mails yesterday
and have just finished answering them all...who invented FoI?
Anyway, I have receved a request for lists of people who have died, - names,
date of death, DOB, last known address and size of estate. Our Registrars
are run by the Council but they only provide name and date of death to the
Registrar General for Scotland - they do not kow size of estate etc and
they cannot provide lists of people who have died to anyone. This is a
person who is trying to trace next of kin and I think it is for people who
have died whilst in care - (Social Services) and is requesting a list of the
above which has been sent to Treasury Solicitor. I think it is different up
here in Scotland but I am a bit wary about this - identity theft etc.
Admittedly, it would be nice if someone contacted me and said my relative
had died and there was £1m waiting to be collected!!!
I am not sure this is FoI - yes, dead people are not covered by Data
Protection but by discllosing last known address etc. that could identify
next-of-kin who are living individuals...and I am sure there must be other
legislation which does not permit disclosure...
Any views would be greatly appreciated as usual..............
