Whilst I sympathise with the owner of the equipment, I would thought that in
future he would be advised to install his own CCTV - after all, he seems to
be relying on your CCTV which is not intended for this purpose - and not
registered for such.
He would then have ownership of the CCTV and it would be registered for this
purpose.
Alternatively could you not look at the footage and if you think that
vandalism/tampering is taking place inform the police - in the same way as I
would go to the police if I saw a crime being committed - I wouldn't tell a
third party.
As they say on a legal newsgroup, I am not a lawyer (IANAL) and I have no
specialised knowledge of this area.
