There is frequently a definite need to be able to search carefully within
free text fields as well as being selective in the available coded fields.
I suppose any data controller detail changes in the ICO's database will
generally automatically only display the new details, with the old ones
being held in a table and correcting any output display, unless fully
accurate historical data is important, in which case that would not be
possible and other search methods or access via other more analytical
databases may be required.
I would guess the ICO has analytical functionality available to index
offenders notifications as they are appropriately weeded by the system, even
so I wonder if the ICO themselves keep some data forever, in which case it
is possible nothing will ever be lost.
Searching on the name 'Telecom' and address of 'London' shows a number of
possibilities, and makes one suppose Telecom has registered its separate
business units as individual data controllers.
