Accessible Events: a good practice guide for staff organising events in
higher education
Are you an events organiser in the higher education sector? Do you plan
and run events as part of your role? Do you know what your
responsibilities are to disabled people as an events organiser? How do
you plan to include disabled people in your events?
To find out the answers to these accessibility questions, and many more,
see the new guide produced by the National Disability Team (NDT) and
TechDis.
Accessible Events is a new, easy-to-use guide for event organisers which
will support the planning, organising, publicising and running of events.
The quick reference information is designed to support you in meeting your
obligations under Part 3 of the Disability Discrimination Act as it
highlights how events, and associated documents, can be designed to be
accessible and include disabled people.
The advice is accompanied by practical checklists which can be easily
customised. You will also find references to more in depth information
about accessibility issues in the ‘Signposting’ sections of the guide.
This ‘must have’ guide can be accessed via the Resource Directory on the
NDT web site and from the Higher Education section of the TechDis web
site. Accessible Events is available in Word and PDF formats.
