As the manager of a chemistry lab I have to ask - WHY? Why are they so
dependent on colour to identify chemicals - have they not heard of
words? All hazardous chemicals should be labelled with the appropriate
HAZCHEM symbols anyway - designed for international recognition.
A greater problem might be recognising colour changes in titrations etc
but even then, surely they can make adjustments - there are plenty of
automatic titration devices around.
John.

Subject: Supporting a student with colour blindness
I have a student who is colour blind who has applied to do a Chemistry
degree and the dept are reluctant to accept him. Their main concern is
that the student would mix up labels on chemicals with potentially
disastrous results.
Does anyone have any experience of supporting a student in similar
circumstances? I'd welcome your comments.
