With apologies for cross posting
Dear Colleagues
The ECU response to the draft Codes of Practice on the new disability equality duty can now be read at http://www.ecu.ac.uk/guidance/disability/ There is a response to the Code for Scotland and a response to the Code for England and Wales.
Initial guidance on first steps HEIs might want to take in response to this new duty (which will come in in December 2006) is also available on the website at http://www.ecu.ac.uk/publications/pamphlets/
The ECU along with colleagues from the National Disability Team is supporting some low key development work with a small number of HEIs in England who have begun to address the new duty and during this calendar year both organisations will be using what is learned from that experience to provide further advice to the sector as a whole.
We hope you find the ECU response to the draft Codes of interest and we welcome any comments.
With good wishes
Liz Sutherland and Chrissie Pepper
