Subject: Part M 2004
Having studied the new 2004 regulations can anyone please give me some
advice on why door widths are stated as a minimum of 800 clear width
(table 2 in the regulations) and then in table 4 it states that 750 is
the minimum accepted. In our student halls I am saying that all door
widths to ALL rooms should follow table 2 but am being told by designers
that table 4 is acceptable for rooms that are not going to be used as
wheelchair accessible study bedrooms. I know student halls have to
comply with non-domestic regulations and need to be clear what I am
saying is the correct interpretation. I would be grrateful if anyone
who has looked closely at them could give me their interpretation of the
regs. I know ideally 800 for all doors would be great but are the
designers following the regs or not?? Help needed urgently please.
Thanks Sheila Watts
